WHY THIS MATTERS TO US
I’ve spent my whole life navigating websites that weren’t built for me.
I was born blind, so I’ve experienced first-hand what happens when a website looks fine visually but becomes confusing, frustrating or completely unusable with a screen reader.
Sometimes it’s a menu I can’t navigate. Sometimes it’s a form I can’t complete. Sometimes it’s a booking process that simply stops me from going any further.
That lived experience is now part of how we I approach accessibility at Shifting Lives. We combine technical accessibility testing with real-world assistive technology testing to understand not just whether a website breaks a rule, but whether someone can actually use it independently.
Accessibility should be measured by whether people can participate, not just whether a box has been ticked.

WHAT WE PRIORITISE
Not every accessibility issue has the same impact.
We prioritise issues based on how much they affect someone trying to use your website independently, not just whether a technical rule is triggered.
P0 - Blocker
A critical user journey cannot be completed independently.
Example: A user cannot complete a booking, submit an important form or access a key service.
P1 - High Impact
A major barrier creates serious difficulty, confusion or loss of independence.
Example: Important controls are unclear or difficult to use with assistive technology.
P2 - Medium Impact
The task is still possible, but unnecessarily difficult, confusing or frustrating.
Example: A workaround exists, but the experience requires extra effort.
P3 - Low Impact
A smaller accessibility or usability issue that does not prevent someone from completing the task.
Example: Minor clarity, consistency or best-practice improvements.
